Reverend Josiah Strong
(1847-1916)

I am a Protestant Clergyman, as well as the Author of Our Country: It's Possible Future and It's Present Crisis and the Founder of the Social Gospel Movement. This Social Gospel Movement sought to bring Old Light religious values back into society to solve social ills created by the likes of industrialisation, immigration and urbanisation. I have served as the General Secretary of the Evangelical Alliance for the United States from the years of 1886 to 1898. This Evangelical Alliance was a coalition of Protestant missionary groups. However, i was forced out and so i created my own group named accordingly as, The League of Social Service, which i stayed part of until my eventual death in 1916. I make these groups a large part of my life, but in my free time i like to write my ideas instead of preach them. I edit a magazine called, The Gospel of the Kingdom, which has been a huge success amongst my followers.
